Los Angeles Indigenous Peoples Alliance

LAIPA was first established in 1991 to create a space for an alternative view of the proposed Quincentenary celebrations. For the following 6 years the organization sponsored seminars, workshops, and cultural events to emphasize the history of the Indigenous in the Americas and to promote cultural strengths as a means of working to build healthy communities. In 1997 LAIPA received the federal non-profit status and began to expand and develop grassroots community organizing, Human Rights training projects, and leadership development.

LAIPA is an affiliate of the International Xicano Human Rights Council, a working group from the International Indian Treaty Council. For the past 8 years we have worked with the Peace and Dignity Journeys, an inter-continental run from Alaska and Argentina to Teotihuacan Mexico. The run 's purpose is to pray for and with communities in need for peace and dignity
